AlloDerm Hernia Repair Patch Linked to Adverse Side Effects, Failures

Posted on June 23rd, 2011 No Comments

AlloDerm is a human-derived tissue patch manufactured by the LifeCell Corporation, which has recently been linked to a number of failures.

AlloDerm was first introduced in 1994 to help physicians treat burn victims. As a human-derived tissue, the patch works by promoting tissue growth wherever it is placed. AlloDerm is essentially donor skin that is dried and chemically treated to remove all cells and antigens.

An antigen is any substance that causes the immune system to produce antibodies against it. In the case of AlloDerm, if the immune system recognizes an antigen in the patch, the body will reject the graft.

AlloDerm was marketed for use in facial reconstruction, breast reconstruction, and hernia repair. Although it has had much success when used in facial and breast reconstruction, AlloDerm has been associated with numerous adverse side effects when used for hernia repair.

If you have suffered due to a side effect of an AlloDerm hernia repair patch, please contact the AlloDerm Defective Mesh Lawsuit Lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187.
