Abdominal Abscesses
When a hernia occurs in the abdomen, it may be treated with surgical mesh skin graft materials such as the Alloderm hernia patch. Unfortunately, complications from this product aren’t uncommon. One of the negative side effects of the Alloderm hernia patch in treatment of abdominal hernias is the appearance of abdominal abscesses. An abdominal abscess is a pocket of fluid and pus, or liquefied white blood cells and other cellular debris, encapsulated in a protective wall inside the abdominal cavity to prevent the spread of infection.
If you or someone you know has experienced abdominal abscesses following treatment with the Alloderm hernia patch, you may be entitled to compensation for your condition. Symptoms of Abdominal Abscesses
Abscesses are a common complication in many surgical procedures, typically resulting from unclean equipment. While they aren’t typically fatal, abscesses can cause significant complications and often require surgery to repair. Unfortunately, abdominal abscesses can be difficult to detect, and may pose the most serious risk of complications. The common symptoms of abdominal abscesses include:
- Abdominal pain
- Abdominal swelling
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Fever
- Weakness or fatigue
- Nausea
Abscess treatment usually requires drainage once the inside of the abscess has softened and formed into pus. However, in treatment of internal abscesses, drainage may be difficult. Abdominal abscesses are typically drained through the use of a catheter, although in some cases a surgeon may be required to make an incision in the abdomen in order for the abscess material to drain properly.
