Hernioplasty
There are two primary methods of hernia repair: herniorrhaphy and hernioplasty. Hernioplasty is an option which employs mesh grafts such as AlloDerm. It is intended to minimize both recovery time and the risk of hernia reoccurrence by minimizing tension on the tissue. This goal is generally achieved when no mesh complications occur. However, the relatively high rate of negative effects from AlloDerm may increase the risk of hernia reoccurrence associated with this procedure.
If you or a loved one has suffered harmful side effects related to the use of AlloDerm in your hernia surgery, you may be entitled to pursue financial compensation from the manufacturer. Contact the dedicated AlloDerm lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187 to discuss your case.
Why Hernioplasty?
Not every hernia repair requires the use of AlloDerm. It is the responsibility of a doctor to confer with the patient in order to reach a decision as to whether hernioplasty or herniorrhaphy is more appropriate. Some factors which should be considered in consultations with one’s doctor include:
- The size of the hernia—smaller tears can normally be repaired without mesh
- The health of the tissue surrounding the hernia—mesh is necessary when the tissue is too weak to effectively hold sutures
- Whether the hernia is incarcerated or strangulated—more serious cases often demand the use of mesh.
