Davol, Inc. - An Interesting History
The news has been filled recently with stories of the allegedly defective Kugel Mesh hernia patch, and that has perhaps muddied the view of the company behind the manufacture of the product in question. As you've seen, the hernia patch has led to dozens of serious injuries as a result of a failure of the patch to "spring" into a flat position once it's inside the patient, and many casual followers understand that Davol, Inc., is the manufacturer, but that's where the common knowledge stops.
Below we'd like to present you with a brief history of the company that's relevant in this situation, and if you've been harmed as a result of using the Kugel mesh hernia patch, contact an attorney at Williams Kherkher immediately to schedule a free initial consultation.
C.R. Bard, Inc. History
Davol, Inc. is celebrating its 100 years of existence as this is written, as the company was founded in 1907, and it was formally incorporated in 1923. Three years later, the founder, Charles R. Bard, sold the company to John F. Willits and Edson L.Outwin for $18,000.00. The company's first main product was a form of a catheter, and it was marketed for decades.
For the next three decades, Bard sold many different forms of catheters, and the company continued to grow. It reached its next milestone in 1968, when Bard was listed for the first time on the New York Stock Exchange. During the next 12 years, Bard became known as Davol, and in 1980, it acquired Davol, Inc.
Over the next 13 years, Bard continued to develop new products and establish new manufacturing plants all over the world. It was a growing giant, and the company's bottom line continued to rocket skyward. However, 1993 proved to be a difficult year for the company. During that year, Bard plead guilty to 391 criminal charges and agreed to pay $61 million in fines in connection with a scandal involving faulty catheters. As a result, three former executives are eventually found guilty of criminal charges connected to the issue.
Bard eventually recovered from this incident, and the company eventually moved above $1 billion in annual revenues. Just a few years ago, the company released the Kugel Mesh hernia patch, and the rest, as they say, is history.
As you see, this is not the first issue that the manufacturer of the patch has encountered. If you have been harmed as a result of using the Kugel Mesh hernia patch, contact a hernia patch attorney at Williams Kherkher immediately to schedule a free initial consultation.
