How AlloDerm Works

Many surgeries require the use of skin grafts or patches. Reconstructive surgeries and burn treatments are some of the most common procedures that require the use of grafts. Though most grafts are taken from another site on the patient, some patients use grafts from other sources. AlloDerm is one such alternative. This acellular tissue matrix product works by providing a structure for the patient’s own body to repair itself.

Unfortunately, AlloDerm does not always work well in every situation. In fact, repeated AlloDerm failures have plagued hernia repair patients. If you or someone you love has been harmed by the failure of an AlloDerm hernia patch, please contact the AlloDerm failure lawyers at Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187.

Reconstructive Tissue Matrix

AlloDerm attempts to bridge the gap between a traditional skin graft and surgical mesh. Unlike a skin graft, this product is acellular in an attempt to prevent rejection. All of the living components that may be active in a skin graft are not present in AlloDerm. This product is also different than a traditional surgical mesh because it does more than just provide structure. However, AlloDerm has been reported to have the following side effects.

  • Mesh failure
  • Mesh erosion
  • Infection
  • Abscess
  • Swelling and inflammation

AlloDerm failure can leave a patient with pain and a need for further medical attention. It is crucial that medical products work for your health and not against it.
