Woman undergoes hernia operation, suffers severe brain damage

Posted on June 13th, 2012 No Comments

A New Jersey woman’s family has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the doctors who performed a hernia operation surgery on the woman, which resulted in severe brain damage.

The 69-year-old woman, and mother of four, underwent hernia repair surgery last summer. She was told by doctors that she was fine to proceed with the surgery despite being overweight and having diabetes. During the surgery, several different surgical errors caused the woman to develop numerous brain injuries.

The once active woman who lived for her family is now living in a nursing home, barely able to communicate with anyone. Her long-term brain injuries are a direct result  from the botched surgery, and now her family is seeking compensation for medical expenses and emotional suffering.

Surgical mesh that is used in hernia repair surgeries can create dangerous situations for a patient. If you have undergone hernia repair surgery where the surgical mesh product, AlloDerm, was used and you now suffer from severe side effects, please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

Heartburn and hiatal hernias linked

Posted on June 4th, 2012 No Comments

It is common for someone who is suffering from a hiatal hernia to also experience symptoms associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

This connection is largely caused by the presence of a hiatal hernia in the esophagus. The hernia can disrupt the esophageal lining, which in turn can cause heartburn symptoms.

Although there is a higher chance of experiencing heartburn if a person has a hiatal hernia, there can be instances of each condition occurring without the other.

Hernia repair surgery can be dangerous when the surgical mesh product AlloDerm is used. This product has been linked to severe complications. If you have developed a serious side effect due to the use of AlloDerm, please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

Tips to prevent hernias

Posted on May 7th, 2012 No Comments

Hernias occur when an organ wall tears, causing the organ to protrude through the opening. This is often results in discomfort and even severe pain, and in some cases, dangerous health conditions can develop. Although hernias can be present at birth, many are the result of injuries and other issues.

There are several types of hernias that can be avoided. The majority of preventable hernias are caused by lifting of heavy objects. This strain could put pressure on several parts of the body, causing tears in organ cavities. By respecting your body’s limits, you can help avoid hernias.

Obesity has also been connected with hernias, so it is important to keep a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid this added risk. Smokers are also more likely to suffer from hernias.

Hernias are commonly repaired with surgery. However, the surgical mesh that is used in these surgeries has been linked to severe side effects. If you have undergone hernia surgery where the surgical mesh AlloDerm was used, please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

Woman severely struggles with aftermath of surgical mesh

Posted on April 17th, 2012 No Comments

In 2011, an Ohio woman underwent surgery in order to correct her diagnosis of stress urinary incontinence. Transvaginal mesh was used in the surgery, and ever since that day she has had to deal with numerous complications.

Shortly after the surgery, the mesh began to push out of her body through her cervix. She decided to have another surgery in order to remove the rest of the mesh, in which she was told was successful. But, after the second surgery there was still more mesh that was forcing it’s way out of her body.

Since February 2011, the wife and mother of two has had five separate surgeries dealing solely with the mesh, and 25 different infections. She was in so much pain that she ended up writing final good-bye letters to her two sons, because she thought that she was going to die. To this day, she is still struggling with day-to-day life, and her financial resources have been drained.

The woman and her husband have decided to file a lawsuit against the makers of the mesh in order to recover what they lost by going through this terrible ordeal. The lawsuit is set to be heard in court at the beginning of next year.

NFL player good to go after hernia surgery

Posted on April 11th, 2012 No Comments

A receiver for the Baltimore Ravens football team has told the press he is completely healed from a recent hernia surgery, and that he is ready to participate in the offseason with his teammates.

Torrey Smith, whose first season in the National Football League was in 2011, played most of his rookie year with a pain in his groin muscle. That groin problem was eventually diagnosed as a hernia. In February, the athlete underwent hernia repair surgery. His coach had mentioned that it was a double hernia repair surgery, but Smith corrected him, stating that it was a single hernia surgery with several tears to the groin muscle.

Recovery went well for the football player, and he believes he is healed enough to play in the offseason. He was seen last month playing in a charity basketball game as well, and hopes that he will be even more beneficial to the Ravens next season.

Surgical mesh used in hernia repair surgeries could cause severe complications. If you have developed serious complications from a hernia surgery involving AlloDerm surgical mesh, please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

Surgical mesh use to increase, regardless of lawsuits

Posted on April 5th, 2012 No Comments

A survey comprised of American physicians reveals that the use of surgical mesh is expected to rise in 2012, despite the recent lawsuits surrounding the product.

Despite the growing concern surrounding surgical mesh products, researchers found that physicians’ loyalty to the products is largely connected to the future increase in use. The physicians who participated in the survey stated that the benefits of these products, in some cases, outweighed the risks associated with the recovery time.

Pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence are two conditions that require this mesh in order to be successful procedures. Despite the growing amount of mesh products that will be in use, the complications and risks are still elevated. These risks can include injuries, erosion, and obstructions of several body parts.

If AlloDerm surgical mesh was used in your hernia repair surgery, and you developed a serious complication from the product, please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.

App could predict post-op hernia pain

Posted on March 29th, 2012 No Comments

A new mobile application developed by a leading surgeon can help predict if a patient will undergo post-operative discomfort after a hernia repair surgery.

The app is called CeQOL, and will be introduced today at the American Hernia Society meeting in New York. The ability to download the application is already in place. Hernia patients are primarily men, and therefore the application was designed with men as the main target market.

A majority of discomfort and pain after hernia repair surgery is associated with surgical mesh. This mesh can cause patients to develop several complications. The app will allow patients to interact with doctors before hernia surgeries in order to understand the risks associated with each step of the process.

Please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187  if you or someone you love suffered from post-operative pain after hernia surgery due to the use of AlloDerm surgical mesh.
