Common Types of Hernias

Posted on March 26th, 2013 No Comments

A hernia is a condition that happens when portions of an intestine bulge from the body cavities that contain them, causing the patient slight to extreme pain. Additionally, blood vessels in the hernia are constricted, cutting blood supply and causing an emergency need for the body to get an immediate supply of oxygen.

While there are a variety of different types of hernias, some of the most common types include femoral, incisional, and obdurator hernias. Femoral hernias occur when abdominal contents, usually the intestines, find their way into the femoral canal, which is the path where the femoral artery, vein, and nerve leave the abdominal cavity to make their way towards the thigh, causing a bulge in the mid-thigh area.

Incisional hernias happen when an error is made with abdominal surgeries, causing a rupture in the abdominal wall. And, while the obdurator hernia doesn’t show a bulge in the pelvic area, it does act as a bowel obstruction, causing the patient severe nausea and vomiting.

Unfortunately, many people have suffered serious side effects as a result of using the Alloderm hernia patch. If this has happened to you, call 800-761-3187 to discuss taking legal action against the party responsible for your suffering. Our legal team at Williams Hart may be able to help you obtain financial compensation for the myriad of losses you have sustained.
