Company admits to selling counterfeit hernia mesh

Posted on December 14th, 2011 No Comments

A distribution company in New Jersey has admitted in court to selling counterfeit, as well as contaminated, hernia mesh.

Ram Medical stated that they bought the mesh, which was mislabeled, from a company in India.

These false products were circulating the medical world between 2008 and 2010.

An investigation conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found that Ram Medical would be charged with two counts dealing with the illegal proceedings. Each count could result in a 5-year probation term and a fine of $200,000. The sentencing will take place in March 2012.

Hernia mesh has shown numerous faults and has led to infections and side effects in patients. A common brand of hernia mesh used in surgeries is AlloDerm and it has been linked to severe pain and side effects. If you have suffered a side effect due to the use of AlloDerm, please contact the AlloDerm lawsuit lawyers of Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187 today.
