Types of Hernias

Posted on June 7th, 2011 No Comments

A hernia is a very serious medical condition, so it is important to understand the different types of hernias.

A hernia is a protrusion of an organ through the wall of a cavity that normal contains it. Depending on where the hernia occurs and what organ is affected, a different treatment or procedure is necessary to repair it. The most common type of hernia is called an inguinal hernia and it accounts for about 75 percent of all abdominal hernias. There are, however, many different types of hernias, including, but not limited to, the following:

–          Femoral Hernia

–          Umbilical Hernia

–          Incisional Hernia

–          Diaphragmatic Hernia

–          Hiatal Hernia

–          Epigastric Hernia

–          Cooper’s Hernia

–          Lumbar Hernia

–          Obturator hernia

–          Paraesophageal Hernia

–          Saddle Bag hernia

–          Littre’s Hernia

Recently, studies have associated hernia repair patches, such as Alloderm grafts, to numerous failures. If you have been injured by a defective mesh hernia product, please contact the AlloDerm Failure Lawyers of Williams Hart by calling 800-761-3187.
