When Are Supplementary Graft Procedures Necessary?

AlloDerm skin grafts have been associated with a number of risks, which could result in additional surgeries.

Studies show that more than eight percent of patients who received an AlloDerm skin graft have required additional explantation procedures. Supplementary procedures are only necessary if the original surgery was unsuccessful, or the patient has developed a dangerous side effects.

Side effects require additional procedures include:

– Infection at the implant site

– Disruptive swelling

– Prolonged pain and discomfort

– Abundant bruising

-unsuccessful graft (recurrence of the hernia)
